Each widget has a unique URL on Widgetbox. Widgetbox calls this unique URL the “Widget URL”. This is the location of the widget within the Widgetbox gallery and where users can subscribe to it.

A Widget URL uses the following format:

http://www.widgetbox.com/widget/my-widget-name

For example, here’s the Widget URL to Widgetbox’s Featured Widgets widget:
http://www.widgetbox.com/widget/featured-widgets.

Do Unlisted Widgets Have a Widget URL?

Yes. Even if a widget is not yet listed in the Widgetbox gallery, it has a Widget URL. This allows you to subscribe to your widget for testing or personal use.

Anybody who knows a widget’s Widget URL can subscribe to it.

Widget URL To A Widget’s In-Progress Edits

As you edit your widget, changes are not published to the ‘live’ widget until you hit ‘Publish Changes’. The Widget URL to this in-progress copy is the regular Widget URL plus “-dev”.

For example, the developer version of the Featured Widgets widget is: http://www.widgetbox.com/widget/featured-widgets-dev/.

You can subscribe to the developer version of any widget. It’s how to test changes before making them live.

Where Do I Find my Widget URL?

Each widget’s dashboard displays the widget’s Widget URL in the upper left hand corner. To get to the developer URL you can add a “-dev” to the URL.

A Widget URL is Permanent

Your widget’s Widget URL starts out as a crazy long random GUID. Before you submit the widget to the gallery, you must choose a “friendly” Widget URL. You cannot change this Widget URL after it has been set. However, if you mistyped it or there’s some other problem with your Widget URL, contact support and we will be able to change it for you.
